Sumita’s Self Defence Academy (SSDA) is a premier, Full Contact, Bare Knuckled Stand-Up Style Fighting Academy, created with a mission to empower and train, mainly, women and children in Kyokushin Karate and Self-Defence Techniques.

 

The main philosophy of SSDA is to “master our mind”, and with our activities centred on the three pillars of nurturing youth, social contribution, and international exchange, we carry on with our daily efforts to further promote Budo Karate. As a symbol of the rapid internationalization of Karate, which originated in Japan, SSDA is now starting to develop International Seminars and Training sessions to take India to the world and vice-versa. 

 

Sensei Kaustav Nath, our founder and chief instructor, has trained in Kyokushin Karate for almost 40 years and Sensei Sumita Nath, our co-founder and Instructor for 32 years. Their greatest desire is to give back using the principles they have learnt to improve their students' lives. You, your family, and your children will develop discipline, respect, self-esteem, confidence, and most importantly, good character by training at SSDA.

People of all ages,  adults, children, ladies interested in learning self-defence, fighters who want to compete, and martial artists at all levels can all subscribe to our classes. The members gain a never-give-up mentality and strength of character that serve them well outside the dojo thanks to the challenging and constantly humble training.

 

Karate has crossed over all borders, including age, gender, nationality, race, and religion, and is loved by the world as a noble Budo (martial art) culture and sport, for it can be trained throughout life, and holds the role of strengthening and enriching one’s mind and soul. The number of youth practitioners has recently increased at a remarkable rate, and we believe that this has helped in providing solutions for serious issues such as bullying and social isolation.

Our Vision:

SSDA envisions being a nationwide model of excellence for full-contact Kyokushin Practitioners. We aim to uphold the original values and teachings of Sosai Masutatsu Oyama through continuous training and inculcate the NEVER GIVE UP attitude. Our intent is to provide a safe haven of positive energy and support for our student’s mental and physical growth and create a standard that others will seek to match.

Our Mission:

  • To promote on an international basis the teaching, practice and dissemination of information on Kyokushin Karate.

  • To establish a unified system of Kihon, Kata and gradings within national organizations.

  • To provide an International identity and opportunities to our Member Dojos.

  • To establish a centre for the issue of International Dan Grade Certificates and in providing the above, continue to maintain the Heritage, Legacy and Values of Sosai Masutatsu Oyama.

  • To Host and Promote International Seminars on Kata and Kumite, especially in Full Contact Karate 

  • Publish knowledgeable articles on Martial Arts for the betterment of the Martial Arts Community irrespective of the Type of Martial Art.
